Reno, Nevada – Feb. 1, 2002 – Academy Award nominee Gary Busey to star in the forthcoming Gamma Films’ production, ‘The Shadowlands,’ a sci-fi drama described as ‘Star Wars’ meets ‘Oliver Twist’.

Mr. Busey’s filmography includes: ‘The Buddy Holly Story’ (for which he received an Academy Award nomination), as well as ‘Lethal Weapon’, ‘Predator 2’, ‘The Firm’, ‘Rookie of the Year’, ‘Under Siege’, ‘Point Break’, ‘A Star is Born’, and dozens of other features and specials.

Mr. Busey will play the role of “Onticree” (pronounced: on-ti-kree), a Caesar-esque ruler of an alien world where he rules with an iron fist. In this world, those who will not ‘bow the knee’ are doomed to survive in the outer regions and underground catacombs, a place they call ‘The Shadowlands’. "Gary's amazing versatility and commanding presence is exactly what we were looking for,” says writer/producer/director Matthew Kilburn. “Gary is guaranteed not only to render a tremendous performance, but also serve to elevate the performances of the entire cast. Combine that with state-of-the-art animation and effects, and ‘The Shadowlands’ is on track for primetime syndication.”

Principal Photography begins February 12, 2002. The project is designed as a pilot for an ongoing television series, and has received a warm response from major television networks. All casting services provided by Integrity Casting.

Gamma Films is a Reno-based production company was founded by President, Matthew Kilburn, a Reno-native and follows on the heels of his 1999 feature ‘The Harversters’, winner of the San Francisco 2001 WYSIWYG Film Festival ‘Thriller of the Year’ award.
